A few months late, but by no means lacking in enthusiasm, I’m posting photos from our Halloween celebration in Hargeisa. In lieu of pumpkins, since there are none to be found in Somaliland, we carved the most handsome of jack o’ lanterns from watermelons.
Tradition aside, watermelons worked well; their bright red flesh glowed from within, by candlelight. The carving was a contest, and considering the eery beauty across all the candidates, we were unable to come to a consensus on a winner.
So be it–Happy Halloween!
